Description

Le Cantine is a nestled among olive groves, vineyards and streams in the hills of Sarteano very near the towns of Chianciano, Chiusi and Cetona at an altitude of 540 meters. It is peaceful and private but not isolated, thus a perfectly located accommodation for a comfortable and secluded Italian holiday. Equidistant between Rome and Florence (90 minutes), this self-catered villa is easily accessible as it is 2.2 kms from the Italian autostrada toll booth exit Chianciano-Chiusi. Nearby towns within easy reach are Orvieto, Siena, Perugia, Todi, Spoleto, Assisi, Montepulciano (Twilight and New Moon), Pienza (The English Patient), Citta della Pieve, Chiusi, Cetona and Chianciano. Sarteano town and Chiusi train station are only a few minutes away by car.

In June this typical Italian villa smells of fresh jasmine. Summer is ideal. The season is warm but the villa stays cool inside due to the thick walls, while the evenings are fresh due to the altitude. The fall with the harvest of the grapes and the olives is very colorful. Winter can be cold and rainy but wonderful and cozy. The spring is, well, it is the spring, and the field behind is full of wild daffodils which the locals call “trombette” i.e., little trumpets.

Outdoor Space

There are about 1000 mt² of verdant Tuscan landscape at the back of the villa and the fenced-in area is enclosed by a hedge that guarantees guests’ privacy. In the summer, there is a garden where guests can pick their own fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, melons, eggplants, basil and squash blossoms. A covered slate-stone patio and various other protected outdoor spaces including a wonderful Jacuzzi® are available for sun worshippers or for al fresco dining.

Interiors

The villa is on three levels and is tiled in Italian terracotta: very cool in the summer and cozy in the winter. An internal lighted staircase conveniently leads from the garage to the upper levels. The ground floor has a spacious, open-plan living room with a fireplace, dining room, a large family-style, fully-equipped kitchen. There is a also a guest bathroom with a clothes washer and a large pantry on the ground level. The upstairs level has four double bedrooms and two full bathrooms. The master bedroom has a terrace and in-suite bathroom. The terrace has a lovely view of the surrounding Tuscany hills. The garden has many flowers. The villa is equipped with the following: linens and towels; color television and VCR; satellite dish; stereo; telephone; clothes washer; dishwasher; garage; mountain bikes; barbecue; lounge chairs; and a high chair. Instructions on how things work in the villa, important phone numbers, maps, excursion information, etc. are kept in the Welcome Book in the living room. And, the owners are just a phone call away in Rome.
